ABSTRACT

School consumes lots of waste every day. As many people use paper and plastics each day, it takes more time to break down resulting in trash accumulation. As a response, the researchers developed a fabricated device and designed a hand-operated waste shredding machine. Shredding papers and plastics, as well as recycling plastic bottles, will be applied for producing eco-bricks and other reusable building blocks for school. The ManuBin device focuses on collecting, segregating, and shredding biodegradable and non-biodegradable wastes. This hand-operated waste shredding machine is composed of effective blades which aims to crush waste for a size that can be recycled. The shaft and blades are the main components that determine the performance of the whole device. Each shaft has an equal number of blades in it and rotates in a counterclockwise motion.

To assess the data needed by the researcher, we came up with one statistical tool for the interpretation of data. Applying the Likert scale utilizing weighted mean is used to compute the obtained data through evaluation. The ManuBin device as a hand-operated waste shredding machine was evaluated by selected teachers and students since the device was designed for school.

As for the portability, the device got 3.65 from the evaluators, 3.87 in terms of its durability, and 3.67 in its functionality. Overall, the device got an average of 3.73 which means that the device is highly acceptable. The improvement of the blades was mentioned to easily cut the paper and plastics into tiny pieces. Also, it was also mentioned by the evaluator to remove the liquid storage box to have a space for shredded waste and avoid mosquitoes. Lastly, one of the recommendations is to use stainless steel instead of iron metals for the framing of the device to avoid corrosion and rust.

This study used a Developmental and Evaluative research design to determine and provide appropriate data and answers in relation to the research study. Based on the findings and conclusion, the researchers conclude that minimizing the consumption of waste and better practices of disposing are essential. Due to this, ManuBin, a device that is designed to shred waste into pieces has a goal to make waste be manageable and make it convenient in different ways and aspects.

In general, ManuBin as a hand-operated waste shredding machine is a simple step to the community as a contribution in saving the environment. The developed device shows that it is effective in terms of its operating mechanisms.
